What are Bim Objects and Bim Content Library


 More and more building material manufacturers are making BIM objects available to their customers on the Internet. As a result, planners, architects, project managers, or even building contractors can browse through the bim content library for virtual models of the building products. This way, they can integrate them into their planning software as part of Building Information Modeling. 

 

Building Information Modeling is considered the future of building and can be translated as "building data modeling". This involves extensive digitization of building planning with the help of modern CAD software programs. The idea behind it is that before a house is built, a “digital twin” is first designed, i.e., a detailed computer model of the planned building.

 

This has nothing to do with conventional, two-dimensional construction plans. Instead, BIM stands for bim content library like photo-realistic 3D models that the architect, craftsman, or building owner can view from different perspectives. Such building simulations also enable, among other things, virtual "tracking shots" through the interior, just like in a modern computer game. In this way, the effect of the rooms can be sensually experienced even before construction begins, and planning corrections can be made early on this basis.

 

Material Databases

 

BIM models are more than just virtual decals of reality. They also contain databases with extensive information on all building materials, components, and construction elements to be installed in the planned building. The models have a bim content library and much more information than can be seen in reality. They allow a kind of look behind the surface of the materials. Ideally, they contain all the important planning and execution-relevant data that planners, architects, and building contractors need for their work.

 

For the building models to integrate such material databases, sophisticated digital twins of the real building materials, components, and components are required. These must contain more information than just the external geometry and appearance of the materials. There are already many such models; they are called BIM objects. Only through them are "superficial" 3D building animations enriched with extensive database knowledge about the materials. With their help, all relevant building data and material properties can be saved in BIM models.

 

For example, data on the constituents of building materials, the layer structure of components, the physical properties of the building parts, weights, dimensions, and material costs, or EAN codes and general manufacturer information are stored in this way. BIM objects can also contain further links - such as assembly instructions from the manufacturer.

 

A Modern Must

 

Like things, the BIM objects have to be supplied by the respective building material manufacturers. And these are also increasingly delivering. So, offering virtual BIM objects and bim content library from one's product range is increasingly becoming a must that no manufacturer can avoid. At least that applies to manufacturers of materials such as wall building materials or building elements.

 

After all, BIM is considered to be the future of the building. Manufacturers who do not want to be left out in the future for computer-aided building planning are more or less forced to offer their products as BIM objects. Those who cannot deliver their products as virtual objects for BIM models in the future will likely lose touch with actual construction at some point.
